Nintendo Switch Camera: You won’t notice the camera lens on the front or back of the Nintendo Switch console, but there are two lurking on the Joycon controller. Each motion detection controller contains an infrared (IR) camera on the bottom. It doesn’t look like a camera because it doesn’t have a traditional lens, but it does have black dots at the bottom.
These cameras weren’t used much when the Switch was first released, but with Nintendo’s cardboard lab kit, the cameras and their features became clearer.
What exactly can a motion infrared camera do?
The way an infrared sensor or camera works is to shoot an invisible spot and assign it to what it hits. Not too far from how sonar works. This allows the Joycon controller to “recognize” objects and movements and use them as input methods.
Image detection is probably much better than expected. The infrared sensor can also detect heat maps. But it is not a high quality or very good camera. Also, currently, without the lab kit, you cannot access the camera part of the IR camera and it still does not work as a traditional camera. You cannot take a photo with Joycon pointing at nothing.
How to take a screenshot with Nintendo Switch
Even without a traditional camera, the switch can take screenshots of what is happening on the screen both during gameplay and within the menu system. A Nintendo SWOT analysis can offer insights into what exactly a motion infrared camera can do
To take a screenshot, tap the Joycon Camera button on the left. This will instantly save what you see on the screen.

If you are adventurous, you can even switch to see your own photo. There is a MicroSD card slot on the back of the console under the stand. The MicroSD card can be used on the switch to save downloaded games and download screenshots taken on the console. It is not clear why this feature is so limited, but it is clear. By default, the switcher does not display photos or videos other than screenshots of the switcher itself.
However, there is something that software tool enthusiasts have come up with to adjust the image so that it can be read with a switch.
