What are the requirements for an Australian visa for a position as a motor mechanic?
1) Enroll in the appropriate programme to earn the appropriate certification
- Light Vehicle Mechanical Technology AQF Certificate III and at least two years of on-the-job training
- AQF Certificate IV
- Automotive Management Diploma
- minimum three years of related work experience
2) Apply for a work visa
Apply for a 485 graduate visa, also known as a temporary work visa, while you look for a job in Australia. This short-term visa is intended to allow new graduates to reside, study, and work in Australia while they look for employment related to their CRICOS-registered course and qualification of completion. You must be under 50 years of age, and this normally lasts for a maximum of 18 months.
3) Australia’s Skills Assessment with Trade Recognition
International students are required to complete a four-step Job Ready Program. To be eligible, you must:
- Have a trade degree from Australia
- The profession is included in the list of medium to long-term strategic capabilities.
- Possess or be qualified for a temporary graduate visa (485).
- Possess 360 hours of relevant work or training performed in Australia.
You must confirm an IELTS score of six or higher and go through a preliminary skills exam. You can start looking for work in that position after it has been approved. After that, you will need to work in that position for 12 months or 1725 hours.
You can apply for a workplace assessment at the halfway point. They will assess your abilities to ensure you match the level required. A final evaluation is necessary once the entire twelve months have passed. You can apply for an independent skilled migration visa once approved. However, there are fees associated with this.
4) Apply for an appropriate position

Which visa to opt for?
Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Visa, Subclass 482,
The Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) Subclass 482, which is used most frequently in the Employer-Sponsored Migration Program, is a visa. This visa permits a team member to stay in Australia for two (short-term list) or four years, depending on their line of work (long-term list). A three-year path to permanent residency is provided through jobs on the long-term list. Unfortunately, a large number of professions fall outside of the 482 program’s eligibility for the residence pathway.

Skilled Employer-Sponsored Regional (SESR) Visa, Subclass 494
2019 saw the introduction of the Skilled Employer-Sponsored Regional 494 Visa. The advantage of this visa is that it offers a wider range of occupations and allows for sponsorship on a five-year visa, which will open up a pathway to permanent residency after three years of full-time employment with the sponsoring organisation.

Employer Nominated Stream (ENS) Visa, Subclass 186
A permanent residency visa is the 186 Employer Nominated Stream (ENS) visa. When approved, the candidate will have a permanent address and be free of the organisation’s control.
Two streams are available for this visa:
Candidates who have been employed for three years on a 482 (TSS) visa are eligible for the Temporary Transition Stream, which allows them to apply for permanent residency through 186 sponsorship.
The Direct Entry Stream is for applicants who are immediately sponsored for permanent residency. Before this sponsorship, they might or might not have worked for the business.
