Kudremukh is a hill range in Karnataka’s Chikmagalur District that is part of the Western Ghats. The region is well-known for its biodiversity and mineral riches. Kudremukh National Park, the state’s largest reserve for the tropical green wet forest, is located at Kudremukh.
Kudremukh, which means “Horse’s Face,” takes its name from a peak that resembles a horse’s face. Kudremukh is a picture-perfect location for trekkers, with green deep forest, undulating meadows interspersed with rare orchid types, and rivers.

1. National Park Kudremukh
Kudremukh National Park is 600 square meters in size and is located in the Western Ghats. This national park, declared a wildlife-protected area in 1987, provides a natural habitat for several species such as Sambhar, Spotted Deer, Giant Flying Squirrel, Mongoose, and Common Langur.
There are over 175 bird species to choose from, including the Malabar Whistling Thrush, Imperial Pigeon, and Malabar Trogon.
2. Kudremukh Peak
The kudremukh trek peak to the mountain summit offers stunning scenery. At 1892 meters above sea level, the peak is hiking heaven with bamboo bushes, Shola flora, natural streams, and spectacular mountain pathways. Kudremukh mountain provides Instagram-worthy vistas of the sky and the Arab Sea.
3. Gangamoola
Gangamoola is the source of three rivers: the Bhadra, Tunga, and Netravati. Gangamoola, also known as Varha Parvata, is located inside the boundaries of Kudremukh National Park.
Gangamoola may be reached by walking for almost 2 kilometers from the road that connects Kudremukh and Sringeri.
4. Fort Jamalabad
Jamalabad Fort is an old hilltop fortress located 87 kilometers from Kudremukh. Tipu Sultan erected this fort in 1794, and it was once known as Narasimha Ghad, for the Granite hill on which it is located.
The fort’s summit provides panoramic views of the Kudremukh range and is a favorite sunset and dawn spot.
5. Kudremukh National Park
This park is a miniature version of the sky on Earth. Within the sanctuary, it covers an area of 600 km2. Many other species of wild people, particularly huge cats, made it home. This place is lovely, with orchids and a variety of fascinating flora.
The presence also provides exquisite Kudremukh experiences, the three rivers – Tunga and Bhadra; the Goddess’ Sanctuary; and a depiction of Lord Vishnu’s Varaha avatar in the Gangamoola cave and the Kadambi Caves. River rafting is a popular activity in Kudremukh.
6. The Lukya Dam
Kurdhu Iron Ore Company (KIOCL) was founded outside Kudremto depositting a Bhadra tributary from its mines on the Lakya River. Kudremukh Iron Ore Company was established. In the evening, it’s a nice place to walk through the dam.
Because a dam is located within the Kudremukh National Park in a protected forest zone, permission from the Department of Forests is required to visit the Dam Area. Tourists visiting Lakya Dam may also visit the Kudremukh National Park. While a guard can post all warnings, he will never, ever climb the rocks since the mud is dangerous.
7. Honnavara, Apsarakonda
Away from the crowds, Apsarakonda is a lesser-known spot in Karnataka and a newly rising tourist hamlet. Ponds of Angels is the village’s name. According to legend, it was one of the angels’ favorite spots to unwind and take a bath.
8. Black Hill, Karighatta
Karighatta is a lovely hill station located around 25 kilometers from Mysore, at an elevation of 2697 feet above sea level. The area is perfect for birdwatching enthusiasts, hill climbers, and environment lovers. It is one of Karnataka’s lesser-known destinations and a fantastic weekend escape spot for residents. Apart from the picturesque scenery, the Karighatta temple is the main draw for visitors from all over the country.
9. Shivagange
Shivagange, a mountain top and Hindu pilgrimage place near Bangalore, is located at an elevation of 804.8 m (2640.3 ft). A historical rock sculpture of Nandi or Basavanna has been carved on top of a rock in the shape of a shiva linga in the middle. The site may be crowded, but it is not to be missed on your Karnataka vacation.
